The preferred grape varieties at Familongue are Carignan & Cinsault and the makeup of each vintage often differs as they try to find the right blend and the right balance to extract the best possible flavours and character from the grapes.
In order to avoid using herbicides, they plough the earth between the vines with a very special device composed of two sharp blades, leaving the rows covered with herbage.
Chemicals have been replaced by a very special compost which is made with hay and horse manure . Keeping the right management of the canopy is an important task. Work is done manually focusing on quality: trellising, crop-thinning, hand picking, cutting and grafting so each piece of soil brings out its own character and its force to the wine.
